John Cowan is a traditional Scottish willow weaver, who works from his small studio in Lanark.
John began making baskets aged 25. He has spent a considerable amount of time learning traditional basket making skills with Colin Manthorpe in Norfolk and Virgilijus Bauzys in West Kilbride, after attaining a grounding in the craft from Geoff Forrest.
John is grateful to Colin Manthorpe for inviting him to his home in Norfolk to learn the traditional method of making the Quarter Cran and for so generously sharing his vast skill & knowledge of basket making. John enjoys passing that skill on to others and Reachout is very happy to provide him with opportunities to do that!
