Moulded by Clay: Lilley's Confidence
"I didn’t realise I had this much talent."
“I recently created three clay works, including a Slytherin inspired cup and saucer, a gift for my mums Christmas of her two dogs (Sky and Jet), and a Hufflepuff ceramic box, complete with matching lid.
The Slytherin cup was originally to have a lily sculpture inside, but didn’t survive the kiln. At first I felt a little upset about this because I spent time sculpting and painting it, but on reflection I think it would have been too much, and it’s perfect the way it is.
My mum loves her Christmas present, especially that the sculpture of Jet has his tongue sticking out, because Jet does always have his tongue sticking out.
I created the Hufflepuff box and lid for myself as this is my house, because we are known as loyal, caring and brave.
Before making these clay works, I didn’t realise I had this much talent. I tried clay before but didn’t think what I made was very good. I compared my work to other people’s work and thought mine looked bad, but now I’ve realised that just because my first try was bad, that didn’t mean I don’t have talent with clay.
Coming to Reachout, I can work with lots of things without constraints both in what I want to make, how I want to make it and the time it will take to make it.
Reachout has gotten me out of my room and a really bad place, it’s also meant coming into a place where people are happy to see me and enjoy me being around. I’ve really enjoyed meeting friends and chatting to new people who are interested in the same things and also making art.
I’m looking forward to creating a large scale painting to display in my room, to match the décor, planning a new ambitious clay project of the whomping willow, and just looking forward to enjoying the time I have at Reachout.”
